Hiring: 3D Environment / Set Artist (Anime-Style / NPR)

About the Role

Type: Part-Time / Contract
Location: Fully Remote (Flexible hours)

Responsibilities

Design and model anime-inspired 3D environments and sets, including both fantastical and modern settings
Create environment assets (e.g., props, modular pieces, architecture) that align with anime and otaku culture aesthetics
Develop stylized textures and materials that support non-photorealistic rendering (NPR) pipelines
Work closely with shader artists and technical teams to ensure environments are optimized for real-time use in Unity URP
Collaborate with VFX and animation teams to integrate environmental storytelling elements, interactive set pieces, and dynamic staging
Set up and light environments in Unity to maintain an anime-style mood and composition
Support 2D/3D blending in environments to achieve anime-style depth, composition, and atmosphere

Requirements

Strong portfolio showcasing anime-style or NPR 3D environments and sets
Proficiency in modeling tools such as Blender, Maya, or similar
Experience with UV unwrapping, baking, and texture painting for stylized assets
Skilled in creating hand-painted or stylized PBR textures that fit NPR/anime workflows
Familiarity with Unity3D, especially URP, for optimizing and setting up environments
Familiarity with Bakery (GPU Lightmapper) for baked lighting and stylized light rendering in Unity
Understanding of composition, color, and lighting in relation to anime-style art direction
Self-motivated and collaborative, able to work efficiently in a remote team
3-5 Years of Professional Experience creating Games, Anime, or other entertainment-related fields.

Bonus / Nice-to-Have

Experience with Shader Graph for NPR effects on environments (e.g., outlines, stylized shadows, rim lighting)
Familiarity with VRChat, ChilloutVR, or avatar-based platforms and set design for live performance
Knowledge of NPR shading and outline techniques specific to environment rendering
Ability to create animated environmental elements (e.g., moving props, subtle environmental effects)
Comfortable working on interactive/performable spaces for live avatars and real-time streaming
