Job Summary

We are seeking an Outside In artist to join our Board as an Artist Trustee. You will have a crucial role in the governance and strategic direction of Outside In. You will be the representative at both the board meetings and artist advisory group meetings.

Location

A mix of online and face to face meetings.

Commitment

Approximately four board meetings per year and one board away day (board meetings usually take place in London but can also be attended online).Four Artist Advisory Group meetings a year (February, May, July and November online).Meetings will last a maximum of two hours with breaks included.

Remuneration

Voluntary.Trustee meetings are unpaid, but travel expenses are reimbursed where applicable.A payment of ยฃ75.00 is provided for attending each Artist Advisory Group (AAG) meeting, with travel expenses covered when applicable.If you receive benefits, you may qualify for permitted work – please check with your benefits office for guidance.

A maximum duration of four years.

You will contribute your lived experience and insights as an artist and member. You will be confident and willing to take on challenges, including encouraging the Board to keep the charity focused on its mission and attentive to the needs Outside In members and artists it supports. As the artist trustee, you will be the representative at both the board meetings and artist advisory group meetings, ensuring clear communication between the groups, sharing feedback from each and raising any key agenda points that need to be addressed.

Job Requirements

Essential: Passionate about Outside In’s mission and purpose. Commitment to diversity, equality and inclusivity. Be understanding of other people’s stories and background. Has engaged with and understands Outside In’s programmes. Represents a demographic which is underrepresented within the art world and meets the Outside In artist criteria. Able to commit to approximately four board meetings and four Artist Advisory Group meetings a year (meetings will last a maximum of two hours with breaks included). Understanding of other people’s access requirements and able to discuss ideas in a group setting. Passionate about the work Outside In does and inclusion in the arts.

Desirable: Experience of working within an advisory role. Experience of chairing or co-chairing meetings and bringing others into a conversation and exchange of ideas. Good advocate for people who face barriers in the art world. Understanding of art world. Experience of taking part in Outside In’s activity.

Job Responsibilities

Attend and actively participate in board meetings (typically 4 per year) and AAG meetings (4 per year) and subcommittees or events where relevant. Provide insight and feedback based on lived experience as a member/beneficiary of the charity. Ensure that the charity operates in line with its mission, values, and legal responsibilities. Contribute to strategic planning, risk management, and policy development. Act as an ambassador for the charity, promoting its work within relevant networks. Uphold the principles of good governance, ensuring transparency and accountability.
