Job Project: Design, Simulation, and Development of a Piezoelectric 2D MEMS Scanning Mirror with Integrated Sensing – Phase 1
Project Overview: We are seeking an experienced MEMS Engineer to design, simulate, and develop a 2D piezoelectric MEMS scanning mirror with integrated sensing. The project requires a horizontal scanning mirror operating at 30 kHz and a vertical scanning mirror operating quasi-statically, optimized for reliability, ease of system integration, and low-cost prototyping.
Project Objectives:
1. Develop a high-performance 2D MEMS scanning mirror with precise motion control.
2. Achieve a 30 kHz horizontal scanning frequency with low phase noise.
3. Implement a quasi-static vertical scanning mechanism for stable operation.
4. Ensure system reliability, manufacturability, and integration feasibility.
5. Optimize for low-cost prototype production.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Concept Design & Feasibility Analysis: Define design specifications and material selection. Assess reliability, cost constraints, and integration challenges.
Simulation & Modeling:
1. Conduct multi-physics simulations (COMSOL, ANSYS, or similar) for piezoelectric actuation.
2. Validate mechanical response, resonance behavior, and energy efficiency.
Fabrication & Prototyping:
1. Develop a scalable MEMS fabrication process.
2. Collaborate with fabrication partners for prototype production.
Testing & Validation:
1. Implement integrated sensing for real-time position feedback.
2. Characterize performance metrics, angular range, and operational stability.
System Integration & Cost Optimization:
1. Design for compatibility with optical and control systems.
2. Minimize prototype costs while ensuring robust functionality.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
1. Master’s or PhD in MEMS Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
2. Expertise in piezoelectric actuation, MEMS scanning mirrors, and sensing techniques.
3. Strong background in multi-physics simulations.
4. Experience in MEMS fabrication and packaging.
5. Knowledge of reliability assessment and manufacturability considerations.
6. Hands-on experience in MEMS device packaging and system-level integration.
7. Experience with signal processing and real-time control for MEMS devices.
8. Ability to collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams in optics, electronics, and mechanics.
Project Milestones & Deliverables:
Phase 1: Design & Simulation – Completion of initial design and performance simulations.
Phase 2: Fabrication & Prototyping – Delivery of functional prototypes.
Phase 3: Testing & Optimization – System validation, refinement, and cost assessment.
Additional Important Requirements:
1. An Independent Contractor Agreement (ICA) or Master Service Agreement (MSA), including personal identification details, will be required before starting work to protect both parties and safeguard mutual interests.
2. This project may involve communication outside of the Upwork platform to ensure efficient project completion.
