Job Summary
A 2D animator is required to collaborate on an innovative research project focused on infant learning and visual attention. The project involves creating a series of short, playful animations designed for babies aged 6 to 12 months. These animations will serve as part of an interactive task where infants choose between visual stimuli, triggering engaging reward animations. Each video will be carefully designed to maintain babies’ calm focus while holding their interest through color, movement, and sound.
Responsibilities
The animator will be responsible for producing several original 3-second animations featuring unfamiliar animals or objects (e.g., penguins, jellyfish, boats) with corresponding “scrambled” versions—visually and audibly similar, but non-coherent—to support the research methodology. Additional brief animations (under one second) of single objects will also be needed to direct infant attention to specific screen areas. The aesthetic should be colorful yet soft, drawing inspiration from shows such as “Puffin Rock” or “Brave Bunnies.” The role requires thoughtful execution, a willingness to iterate based on feedback, and an understanding of how to tailor animation for very young audiences.
Requirements
Demonstrated experience in 2D animation, especially for children’s content. Ability to develop original characters, objects, and scenes appropriate for infants (no anthropomorphic figures or voices). Skilled in creating visually engaging, non-overstimulating animations. Capable of producing both coherent and scrambled versions of animations with matched visual and audio properties. Comfortable developing very short, focused animations to guide attention. Familiarity with soft, colorful illustration styles (e.g., “Puffin Rock”, “Curious George”). Collaborative mindset, open to multiple rounds of feedback. Availability to begin soon and deliver work within an agreed timeframe. Remote working capability with access to professional animation tools.
