About the role
In your role as a lettering artist, you will be working closely with our creative team to develop exciting and serialized comics in a variety of genres. Your job will be to help bring their vision and storytelling into life through perfect lettering matching the art itself. You will be responsible for designing, placing, and integrating text such as dialogue, captions, sound effects, and other typographic elements into web comic panels.
Responsibilities
Design and place text such as dialogue, captions, and sound effects in comic panels to enhance storytelling and readability. Creatively decide the font, letterforms, balloon strokes and sizes, great lettering flow and placement to create the best reader experience. Maintain a consistent style that aligns with the comic’s tone, reviews for errors, and collaborate with writers and illustrators. Ensure text placement flows naturally and doesn’t obstruct key visuals. Match the font and letterforms and the stroke of the balloon to the artwork itself to optimize the legibility/readability.
Required Qualifications
Previous experience in a similar role (lettering artist) is preferred. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Attention to detail & gripping storytelling and proactive, solution-oriented, able to set priorities. Ability to create custom fonts or modify text effects that fit the comic’s aesthetic. Exceptional attention to detail for alignment, spacing, and overall text legibility. Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
