Senior FX Artist at Omens Studios

The Senior FX Artist is responsible for achieving the creative aims by designing and delivery of high quality Visual Effects that are in line with the artistic vision. You will work closely with the Directors/CG Supervisor and/or other Lead Artists through the use of visual effects and technical aspects of animation.

Responsibilities

Work with Directors, CG supervisor and/or Producers to determine and meet the FX needs of the project. To lead and mentor FX artists in designing and producing high quality animation and simulations of all manner of effects. Work closely with Animation, Modelling and Look Dev (including light & comp) departments to develop various FX approaches and assets. Design, create and implement high quality effects including Water, Fire, Smoke, Explosions, Clouds, Debris, Magical etc. Work closely with our TDs and Pipeline to improve the FX processes/workflow. To work with the Riggers in developing character rigs with clothing simulation, hair simulation and character FX if required. To anticipate problems and present solutions adapted to time and budget constraints. Supervise the quality control (technical and visual) of external assignments and ensure outsource partners has clear direction of FX requirements.

Requirements

Min. 5 years’ experience in Film/Animation as an FX Artist. Excellent working understanding of FX, TD capacity and technicalities of a production pipeline. Good technical knowledge for problem solving, verbal communication and organizational skills. A good “eye” and a good understanding of light, colour, contrast, shading and FX. Attention to details. Working knowledge of body simulations, such as fluids, cloth, fur and hair. In-depth knowledge of FX techniques, workflow and software (Unreal Engine, Houdini, Maya, Bifrost etc). Knowledge of coding/scripting in current production languages Ie: Python, VEX, Hscript, C++, and Mel is a plus. Ability to work under tight deadlines in order to deliver on time and on budget.
