About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Artist to optimize and enhance the performance of our already-released 2.5D game. Currently, the game is experiencing excessive GPU usage and overheating issues on modern graphics cards. We require a skilled specialist to identify, analyze, and resolve these performance problems efficiently.
Responsibilities
Diagnose and optimize GPU usage and performance issues in the game. Analyze shaders and optimize them for improved efficiency. Optimize 3D assets, including models, textures, lighting, and materials. Improve rendering efficiency and overall frame rate stability. Profile and debug performance issues across different hardware configurations. Work closely with the engineering and art teams to implement optimized solutions. Ensure the game runs smoothly on a variety of GPU architectures. Document the optimization process and provide best practices for future projects.
Required Skills & Qualifications
5+ years of experience as a Technical Artist in the game industry. Strong expertise in GPU performance profiling and optimization. Deep understanding of real-time rendering pipelines and shading techniques. Proficiency in HLSL, GLSL, or ShaderLab for shader debugging and optimization. Strong knowledge of LOD (Level of Detail) optimization, polycount reduction, and efficient UV mapping. Experience with lighting optimization (baked vs. real-time lighting techniques). Proficiency in game engines (Unity, Unreal Engine, or others used for 2.5D games). Familiarity with graphics debugging tools such as RenderDoc, Pix, or NVIDIA Nsight. Understanding of texture compression formats and memory management. Ability to profile performance using tools such as PIX, Razor, or Unity/Unreal Profiler. Experience with VFX and post-processing optimization. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
Nice to Have
Experience working on shipped titles with a focus on optimization and performance improvements. Experience with procedural asset generation tools like Houdini. Background in technical animation optimization (rigging, skinning, and blend shapes). Familiarity with multi-threading optimizations for rendering.
