Job Description
Shifty Eye Studios is looking to contract a 3D Environment Artist with at least 3+ years of professional 3D modeling experience to join our team (remote or in office)! Experience with 3D modeling real world locations and/or realistic props is beneficial for the position, as well as prior game development experience or experience working within a game company. We are looking for remote candidates that will be able to work around a similar schedule as our studio (MST), as well as be able to be part of our weekly art team meetings.
Role Summary
We are looking for someone that can demonstrate great attention to detail when it comes to implementing optimized art in a game engine for a polished final in-game look. The candidate will have a minimum of 3 years experience using a 3D modeling software (such as Maya, 3DS Max, or Blender), as well as exposure to a video game engine (such as Unity or Unreal).
Responsibilities
The candidate will be expected to work alongside our in-studio artists and leads, as well as cross-department work with programmers, designers, and animators. We are looking for an environment artist that has experience with set dressing levels to a polished state, which includes using assets and environment structures created by other artists. A strong commitment to collaborative problem solving and creating quality products is essential. The ability to prioritize tasks when needed and manage tight deadlines while maintaining acute attention to detail is necessary, as well as a strong ability to communicate remotely with the rest of the team.
Technical Expertise/Skills Desired
3+ years experience using Maya, 3DS Max, or Blender at a professional level with the ability to create both props and environments. Proficiency in UV unwrapping, channel packing, normal/texture baking, and mesh optimization. Knowledge of how to properly create and utilize trimsheets, as well as create lightmaps for use in a game engine. At least 1+ years experience with Unity or other game engines is highly desired for this role. The candidate should be comfortable in moving assets between their chosen 3D modeling software and the Unity engine as part of their workflow. Experience with set dressing environments with assets both created by the candidate as well as other artists, and able to create a unified look with other team members working on the same level.
Additional Qualifications (Not required, but beneficial)
Experience with digital sculpting (ZBrush, Mudbox). Experience working with 10+ person teams. Experience using version control software (Sourcetree, Perforce). Experience with project management tools (Jira, Asana).
