Reports to: ARTPrenticeship Program Director Program Dates: May 1 – July 17, 2026Mandatory Orientation: April 25 & May 1(No program sessions on July 4 in observance of Independence Day)‍About ARTPrenticeshipARTPrenticeship is a paid arts-based job training program developed in collaboration with Waco ISD and local sponsors. The program provides rising high school juniors and seniors (16-20) with real-world experience in public art creation while developing workforce skills, creativity, and community engagement.Position OverviewCreative Waco seeks professional artists to mentor and lead young creatives in designing and executing public art projects. Artist Mentors will work alongside apprentices, guiding them through artistic processes while fostering professional development in time management, collaboration, and problem-solving.Each project team consists of a Program Manager, Teaching Artists, Assistant Teaching Artists, and Design Consultants to ensure high-quality artistic outcomes. The typical mentor-to-apprentice ratio is 1:4, allowing for hands-on instruction and skill-building.‍ResponsibilitiesMentorship & LeadershipServe as a mentor and role model for apprentices (ages 16–18).Provide hands-on instruction in artistic techniques and professional practices.Guide apprentices through project development, from concept to completion.Foster a positive and constructive learning environment.Project ExecutionLead and collaborate on high-profile public art projects.Work with other Teaching Staff to plan and execute designs.Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring safety protocols are followed.Attend all mandatory training, orientation, planning, and wrap-up meetings.Collaboration & Community EngagementWork closely with fellow artists, community partners, and program staff.Assist apprentices in building their portfolios and developing workforce readiness.Represent Creative Waco professionally and uphold the organization’s mission.QualificationsMust be at least 22 years old.BFA, MFA, or equivalent experience in visual arts, education, or a related field.Strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.Teaching, mentorship, or arts education experience preferred.Ability to work with youth from diverse backgrounds in a constructive and engaging manner.Commitment to professionalism, integrity, and meeting project deadlines.Flexibility, adaptability, and a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.‍Benefits of ParticipationPaid opportunity to mentor emerging artists and create meaningful public art.Portfolio development and networking with local creatives and arts professionals.Hands-on experience in community-driven projects.The chance to make a lasting impact on young artists and the local arts scene.Application ProcessSubmit your application, including a resume and work samples, through the application form on this page.
