We’re looking for a highly skilled Background Artist to create visually rich, cinematic environments inspired by films like Suzume. This role requires a strong blend of 2D illustration and 3D-assisted workflows to produce detailed, atmospheric scenes. You’ll work on stylised yet realistic environments for animation, combining lighting, depth, and composition to create immersive visual storytelling. This is not a generic anime role; we are specifically looking for artists who understand light, realism, and cinematic composition, not just stylised drawing. ResponsibilitiesCreate high-quality 2D painted backgrounds with strong attention to lighting and detailUse 3D tools (e.g., Blender) for scene layout, perspective, and camera setupIntegrate 2D and 3D elements seamlesslyDevelop environments such as urban scenes, landscapes, interiors, and atmospheric settingsCollaborate with animation and design teams to match visual directionApply colour grading and mood consistency across scenes Nice to Have (optional but powerful filter)Experience working on animated films or short filmsUnderstanding of Japanese animation pipelinesAbility to replicate lighting styles similar to Makoto Shinkai filmsExperience with Unreal Engine (for real-time environments) Email your portfolio to: hari@bytecronix.com
