Position Overview

Our Auckland-based studio is on the hunt for a talented and experienced Lead 3D Artist to drive the visual direction of our projects, mentor a growing art team, and bring vibrant, stylized worlds to life. Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Art Director to define and uphold the game’s visual style, contributing high-quality key renders and visual development. Oversee the quality of all 3D game content, including characters and environments, ensuring a high standard and alignment with vision and technical constraints. Lead and help mentor the 3D art team, providing feedback, direction and development support. Be hands-on in asset creation, particularly during milestones or for key assets. Implement final assets implementation into game engine (Unity). Assist in hiring efforts, team reviews, artist onboarding and appraisals. Help establish and evolve the 3D asset pipeline, ensuring efficient workflows from concept to engine implementation, with clear documentation when needed. Work with production to plan deliverables, scope and track quality across feature milestones. Occasionally contribute to the creation of marketing assets or promo assets as needed.

Requirements

6+ years of experience in game development, with at least 1-2 years of experience in a senior or lead role on a shipped title (mobile experience strongly preferred). Expert skills in Maya, Zbrush, Substance Painter (or equivalent tools), with a great understanding of modelling, sculpting, UV mapping, texturing and an eye for the final quality. Strong knowledge and hands on aptitude with Unity. A compelling portfolio showcasing stylized 3D work across characters, environments or props. Excellent cross-discipline communication skills, a friendly, collaborative and approachable attitude. Fluent English, verbal and written. Comfortable giving and receiving feedback. Able to work independently and proactively, with a strong sense of ownership and driving it to completion. Strong organizational skills and a focus on clarity and quick iterations. A passion for games, and a personal drive to grow as an artist and a leader.
