The Student Deal at a Glance
| Plan (US, Nov 2026) | Price per month | What you get | Cost for year 1 |

Year-1 cost is 12 months at the monthly price shown. Adobe says the student renewal price is subject to change, and promotions come and go, so confirm every figure at checkout.
Who Qualifies for the Adobe Student Discount?
Adobe's US student page sets these rules:
- Students: you must be 13 or older and currently enrolled at an accredited school or a qualified online program.
- Teachers: educators and staff currently employed at an accredited institution or qualified online program qualify too.
- Payment: the subscription has to be bought with a credit card by someone who is at least 18, so a younger student needs a parent or guardian to pay.
- Proof: Adobe may ask you to confirm a school-issued email address or upload current-year documents, such as a student ID, class schedule, transcript or enrollment document. Educators may be asked for a teacher ID, pay slip or offer letter.
The offer is for current students and teachers, not for graduates. Adobe's page ties the $39.99 second-year price to staying eligible, so plan for the regular price once you graduate. If you are not a student, the discount is not available to you, and the cheaper routes are in the section on other ways to pay less below.
What Is Included in the Student Plan (and What Is Not)
The student offer is the Creative Cloud Pro plan, billed as an annual plan paid monthly. Adobe lists more than 20 apps, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, After Effects, Lightroom, Acrobat Pro, Adobe Express, Animate, Dimension, Audition, Fresco, Character Animator, Dreamweaver, InCopy, Bridge, Media Encoder and Scan. Adobe offers a 7-day free trial first, and after it ends the discounted subscription starts.
Not included: Substance 3D. Adobe states that the Substance 3D Collection, which holds Substance 3D Painter, is not part of the student Creative Cloud Pro plan. Adobe lists a separate education offer for the Substance 3D Collection, marked for personal and non-commercial use only, and shows the price in the checkout flow. Texture and 3D students should read Substance Painter free: trial, free alternatives and when to pay before deciding.
Also missing from every Adobe plan: Maya, Blender, ZBrush and Unreal Engine. Those are not Adobe products, and they matter more than most Adobe apps for 3D roles, as the job data below shows.
The Real Cost: Student Plan vs Other Adobe Plans
The student price is cheap in year one and then doubles. Here is what each option costs over a four-year degree if you stay on it the whole time and prices do not change (Adobe may change them):
| Option | Year 1 | Each later year | 4 years total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Student Creative Cloud Pro | $239.88 | $479.88 | $1,679.52 |
| Photoshop single app | $275.88 | $275.88 | $1,103.52 |
| Photography plan (Photoshop + Lightroom) | $239.88 | $239.88 | $959.52 |
| Creative Cloud Standard | $659.88 | $659.88 | $2,639.52 |
| Creative Cloud Pro, regular price | $839.88 | $839.88 | $3,359.52 |
What the math says:
- In year 1 the student plan costs $36 less than Photoshop alone ($239.88 against $275.88) and gives you 20+ apps instead of one. For a first year it is the best Adobe deal there is.
- From year 2 the student plan costs $479.88 a year. If Photoshop is the only Adobe app you use, the Photoshop single-app plan at $275.88 a year is $204 cheaper per year.
- If you also need Illustrator or After Effects, the student plan stays far cheaper than buying those apps separately.
- Annual plans billed monthly are a 12-month commitment. Cancel within 14 days of the original purchase for a full refund. After that, Adobe's US subscription terms charge a lump sum of 50% of the remaining balance (30% of the annual commitment in California), so do not subscribe for a single busy month and expect to walk away free.
What Game and 3D Art Employers Ask For: ArtBlast Job Data
The useful question for an art student is not "which Adobe apps exist" but "which ones do studios name". ArtBlast counted how many distinct job posts mention each tool in the description, using 1,671 distinct 2D art, concept art, illustration and 3D art job posts from March 13 to August 12, 2026. Each post is counted once, however many tools it names.
| Named in the job post | Posts (of 1,671) | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Adobe Photoshop | 533 | 32% |
| Substance 3D (Painter, Designer and others) | 449 | 27% |
| After Effects | 102 | 6% |
| Adobe Illustrator | 90 | 5% |
| At least one of Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Substance, Premiere, InDesign, Lightroom, Animate or Fresco | 878 | 53% |
Split by discipline, the answer changes a lot. Among the 508 distinct 2D art, concept art and illustration posts, Photoshop appears in 51% and Illustrator in 17%. Among the 1,167 distinct 3D art posts, Photoshop appears in 23%, while Maya (47%), Blender (43%) and Unreal Engine (44%) lead and Substance appears in 37%. A mention means the studio lists the tool as a skill or part of its pipeline, not that every artist must own a license.
What about entry-level roles? Of 94 posts with junior, entry, intern, associate, trainee, graduate or apprentice in the title, 33 name Photoshop (35%) and 25 name Substance (27%). That sample is small, so treat it as a direction, not a rule.
What to do with this: 2D and concept art students get the most from the student plan, because Photoshop is the tool employers name most. 3D students should use the student plan for Photoshop and learn Maya or Blender, ZBrush and a texturing tool alongside it. Browse live openings to see what your target studios list: 2D artist jobs, 3D artist jobs, entry-level game art jobs and game art internships are updated daily.
How to Get the Adobe Student Discount, Step by Step
- Open the Adobe student and teacher page and choose the Creative Cloud Pro student offer.
- Start the 7-day free trial. Adobe starts the discounted subscription when the trial ends unless you cancel first.
- Verify with a school-issued email address, or keep a current student ID, class schedule or enrollment document ready in case Adobe asks for one.
- Pay with a credit card held by someone aged 18 or over.
- Set a calendar reminder for month 11 and look at your next-year price and whether you still qualify.
Check your school first. Some universities license Adobe apps for their students at no charge, and the IT pages of MIT and Berkeley are examples of how schools describe it. Ask your school's IT desk whether a campus license exists before paying yourself.
Not a Student? Other Ways to Pay Less
- Photography plan, $19.99 a month: Photoshop, Lightroom and 1 TB of storage. Adobe lists it at the same $19.99 a month as the student price, which is $239.88 over a year. For a painter who only needs Photoshop it is cheaper than the Photoshop single app. See the Photography plan.
- Photoshop single app, $22.99 a month: the simplest option when Photoshop is the only Adobe tool you need.
- Creative Cloud Pro intro offer: $34.99 a month for the first 3 months for new subscribers, then $69.99. Only worth it if you need many apps.
- Free alternatives: Krita, Affinity and Adobe Fresco cost nothing. Photoshop alternatives for artists compares them, and the best digital art software guide covers the wider field.

Is the Student Plan Worth It for an Art Student?
It is worth it if you will use more than one Adobe app, or if you are in your first year and want the cheapest legitimate way to learn Photoshop on the tool studios name. It is less compelling from year two if Photoshop is your only app, and it does not cover Substance, which 37% of the 3D posts in the sample name. Free tools such as Krita are enough to build a portfolio, but a job post that names Photoshop, as 51% of 2D art posts do, is a good reason to learn it on the real thing. Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get Adobe Creative Cloud for free as a student?
