Prices were read from Adobe's US pages in November 2026, with every source at the end. Adobe sets prices by country, so the same plan shows a different amount in Canada or India. If you are a student, the numbers change a lot: read the Adobe Creative Cloud student discount guide. This page covers the plans everyone else can buy.

The Photoshop Plans, One by One

Adobe Photoshop app icon

Photoshop single app: $22.99 a month.

The Photoshop plan is the default choice. Adobe lists it at $22.99 a month on an annual plan billed monthly, with Photoshop on desktop, web and mobile plus the Adobe Express Premium plan. Over a year that is $275.88. Adobe also sells the same plan month to month, which costs more per month; Adobe shows the exact month-to-month figure at checkout, so it is not quoted here.

Photography plan: $19.99 a month. This bundle holds Photoshop on desktop and iPad, Lightroom, Lightroom Classic and 1 TB of cloud storage. Adobe lists it at $19.99 a month on the annual plan billed monthly, which is $239.88 over a year. It is $3 a month cheaper than the Photoshop single app, so an illustrator who only wants Photoshop on a computer or iPad can use it and ignore Lightroom. See the Photography plan on Adobe and compare the web and mobile access you need against the single app before choosing.

Creative Cloud Standard: $54.99 a month and Creative Cloud Pro: $69.99 a month. Pro includes 20+ apps, among them Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, After Effects and Acrobat Pro. New subscribers see an intro price of $34.99 a month for the first 3 months, then $69.99. Over the first year that adds up to $734.88, and $839.88 for every year after. These make sense only if you use several Adobe apps for paid work. See the Adobe plans page for the current app lists.

Student and teacher plan: $19.99 a month in year 1, then $39.99. It is the same Creative Cloud Pro plan, restricted to enrolled students and teachers. The full rules, the four-year math and the verification steps are in the student discount guide.

Substance 3D Collection: $59.99 a month. Adobe's texturing apps are a separate subscription, not part of Photoshop or Creative Cloud Pro. 3D artists who paint textures should read Substance Painter free: trial, alternatives and when to pay.

Can You Buy Photoshop Permanently?

No. Adobe sells Photoshop by subscription. The closest one-time purchase is Photoshop Elements 2027, a lighter product: Adobe describes it as a one-time purchase, but the license is non-renewing and expires 3 years after redemption, after which the software stops working (the Organizer catalog stays accessible). It is not the full Photoshop used in studio pipelines, and it is a poor match for PSD handoff with a team. Artists who want to avoid subscriptions altogether should look at Photoshop alternatives for artists, which includes one-time purchase and free options.

Photoshop Free Trial and Free Versions

  • 7-day free trial: Adobe's trial page offers a 7-day trial of the Photoshop plan. You are not charged until it ends, and it converts to a paid plan unless you cancel first. Adobe says you can cancel within 14 days after the trial ends for a full refund.
  • Free mobile app: Adobe lists a free version of Photoshop for mobile, with premium features behind a subscription.
  • No free web version: Adobe's page says the web version needs a plan or trial to work on your own files.

Cancellation, Refunds and the Annual Commitment

The $22.99 price depends on the annual commitment. Under Adobe's US subscription terms, canceling an annual plan billed monthly within 14 days of the original purchase gets a full refund. After that, Adobe charges a lump sum of 50% of the remaining contract balance (30% of the annual commitment in California). Cancel in month 9 and the fee covers half of the 3 months left, for example. In practice the commitment is about $276 for Photoshop, so do not buy it for one project and expect a clean exit.

Is Photoshop Worth It for a Working Artist?

For most artists chasing studio work, yes, because studios name it. ArtBlast counted job posts from March 13 to August 12, 2026, with 508 distinct 2D art, concept art and illustration posts and 1,167 distinct 3D art posts that carry a full description:

Named in the job post2D art and illustration (of 508)3D art (of 1,167)
Adobe Photoshop261 (51%)272 (23%)
Adobe Illustrator84 (17%)6 (0.5%)
Substance 3D9 (1.8%)429 (37%)
After Effects36 (7%)66 (6%)

That makes Photoshop the most-named tool in 2D and concept art, and still in about one in four 3D posts. A mention means the studio lists the tool as a skill or part of the pipeline, not that every artist must own a license. If your target studios do not name it, free tools may be enough: see the best digital art software guide for the field. Check real openings before you subscribe: 2D artist jobs, concept art jobs, 3D artist jobs and illustrator jobs.

The cheapest sensible path: a student uses the student plan in year 1; everyone else uses the Photography plan or the single app for the months they are building or updating a portfolio and applying. Photoshop is hard to avoid once an employer or client sends a layered PSD, and 2D art roles name it in more than half the posts above. How to Pay Less for Photoshop

  1. Use the student plan if you are enrolled: $239.88 in year 1 for 20+ apps.
  2. Pick the Photography plan at $19.99 if you only need Photoshop on desktop and iPad.
  3. Take the 7-day trial to finish a portfolio piece, and cancel inside the refund window if you do not need it.
  4. Ask your school or employer whether a campus or company license exists.
  5. Use a free tool for practice such as Krita, and keep Photoshop for the files studios need.
