Colorist Jobs FAQ

How do I find colorist jobs?

ArtBlast curates colorist jobs daily from animation studios, post production houses, VFX companies, and comic publishers worldwide. Subscribe to get 10-60+ opportunities in your inbox every morning with direct apply links.

What is the average colorist salary?

Junior colorists earn $50K-$68K, mid-level $60K-$82K, and senior colorists $82K-$118K in the US. Lead and supervising colorists range from $108K to $155K.

Is a colorist the same in film and comics?

No. In film and animation a colorist grades footage for mood and continuity, usually in Resolve or Baselight. In comics a colorist paints colour over line art, usually in Photoshop or Clip Studio. Both titles appear in listings.

What software do colorists need?

DaVinci Resolve is the industry standard for grading, with Baselight common at larger post houses. Comic colorists work mainly in Photoshop and Clip Studio Paint.

Are there remote colorist jobs?

Comic colouring is very often remote or freelance. Grading is less so, since it depends on calibrated suites, though remote grading has grown. ArtBlast includes work model info on every listing.
